Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe's premier safari destination. Spanning over 14,600 square kilometres, it protects an extraordinary diversity of wildlife and landscapes.
Named after a local Nhanzwa chief, Hwange National Park was established in 1928 as a game reserve and later designated a national park. It sits in the northwest of Zimbabwe, bordering Botswana's Chobe National Park to the south.
The park's location on the edge of the Kalahari Desert gives it a unique character — ancient teak forests, acacia woodlands, grassy plains and fossil riverbeds. Over 60 pumped waterholes ensure wildlife thrives even during the driest months.
Hwange is famous for its enormous elephant herds, healthy lion and wild dog populations, and exceptional bird diversity. It's a year-round destination with distinct seasonal highlights.
